Brass Wall Sconces

Enhance the aesthetic of your home or business with brass wall sconces. Ideal for sitting rooms, bedrooms, and hallways, our sconces seamlessly combine traditional and modern design elements.

A brass wall sconce is the oldest trick in lighting, and still one of the best: light held at eye level, in a warm metal that flatters everything near it, taking no floor or table space at all. In hallways, beside beds, flanking mirrors and fireplaces, brass sconces add the layer that makes a room feel finished.

Ours are designed and handmade in our Herefordshire workshop, as we have done since 1982, in solid hand-spun brass, not plated, so they mellow and age the way brass should. The range runs from classic double-arm sconces like our Upton, Pixley and Ledbury designs to flexible pieces like the Pixley flexible wall light for reading. Because every sconce is made to order, finishes can be matched to your other fittings, polished, aged or bronzed.

Placement is the question we answer most: sconces sit best at 1.6 to 1.8 metres from the floor, in pairs or rhythm rather than alone. Tell us about your room and we will help you place them honestly, including where a single sconce is all you need.

What is a brass wall sconce?

A brass wall sconce is a wall-mounted light fitting made from solid brass, holding light at eye level to flatter rooms and the people in them. Fritz Fryer sconces are handmade from solid hand-spun brass in our Herefordshire workshop, in classic and contemporary designs, all made to order.

Are your brass sconces solid brass or plated?

Solid brass, always. We hand-spin and finish real brass in our workshop, so our sconces carry the weight of the metal and mellow beautifully with age. Plated imitations pit and peel; solid brass simply deepens in character, and can always be repolished if you prefer the bright look.

Where should brass wall sconces be placed?

Brass sconces sit best at 1.6 to 1.8 metres from the floor, in pairs flanking a fireplace, bed or mirror, or in rhythm down a hallway. Beside a bed, drop to shoulder height when sitting up. Tell us your room and we will suggest exact positions before you commit.

Do brass sconces suit modern interiors?

Yes. Brass is the rare metal that crosses styles: polished brass reads classic, aged and bronzed finishes sit quietly in contemporary rooms, and the warmth of the metal flatters both. A clean-lined brass sconce is often the warmest choice for a modern scheme. We can advise on finish for your room.

Can brass wall sconces be dimmed?

Yes. All our brass sconces take LED bulbs and dim normally with dimmable LEDs on a compatible dimmer, and dimmed brass sconce light is one of the most flattering things a room can have in the evening. We can recommend bulb and dimmer pairings for each fitting.

Are brass sconces good as reading lights?

Yes, especially our adjustable and flexible designs, which put light exactly on the page without taking bedside table space. Mount them at shoulder height when sitting up in bed. Fixed double-arm sconces work well beside a chair where the shade directs light downward.

Can brass sconces be matched to my other lights?

Yes. Every sconce is made to order in our Herefordshire workshop, so finishes can be matched to your ceiling lights, pendants and lamps, polished, aged or bronzed, and designs are available across our Upton, Pixley, Ledbury and Fawley families for a coordinated scheme.

How much do brass wall sconces cost?

Our made-to-order brass sconces are priced comparably with premium retail brands, rising with size and complexity. What the extra buys is solid brass rather than plating, handmaking in Herefordshire, a finish matched to your scheme, and a fitting built to last decades rather than seasons.
