Wye Valley Lighting Collection

The Wye Valley lighting collection is a modern twist on the classic railroad design. It is a stylish fitting with a retro aesthetic, that is perfect for both modern and traditional spaces.
The Wye Valley, from which this gorgeous light takes its name, straddles the border between England and Wales, recognisable for its incredible scenery and dramatic landscapes.

The Wye Valley collection takes its name from the river valley our workshop calls home, and its character from the same place: practical, handsome, built for real rooms. It is a small, focused family, pendants and swing-arm wall lights, with bathroom-rated versions, each one made to be lived with for decades.

The collection is designed and handmade in our Herefordshire workshop, as we have done since 1982, in solid hand-spun brass and proper glass: the Wye Valley pendant, the long swing arm wall light and short swing arm for reading and task light, and the Wye Valley bathroom pendant, rated for wet rooms.

Every piece is made to order, so drops, reaches and finishes are set to your room. The swing arms follow the reading-light rule: mount them at shoulder height when sitting up, close enough to reach over your shoulder onto the page. Tell us where each piece is going and we will confirm positions honestly.

What is the Wye Valley lighting collection?

The Wye Valley collection is a Fritz Fryer family of pendants and swing-arm wall lights, with a bathroom-rated pendant, named for the river valley our Herefordshire workshop calls home. Every piece is handmade to order in solid brass and glass, built to be lived with for decades.

What is the best Wye Valley light for reading?

The Wye Valley swing arms, long and short, are made for reading: mounted at shoulder height when sitting up in bed or settled in a chair, the arm reaches over your shoulder onto the page and folds back by day. Choose the reach from where the light can mount to where the light needs to land.

Which Wye Valley lights are suitable for bathrooms?

The Wye Valley bathroom pendant is purpose-built and rated for bathroom zones. UK bathrooms have strict zone rules by distance from water, so tell us where in the room the fitting will go and we will confirm exactly what is safe.

Short or long swing arm: which do I need?

Match the reach to the gap: the short arm suits a light mounted close beside the bed or chair; the long arm reaches across wider gaps, over headboards, or from a wall further away. Measure from the mounting point to where the light needs to land and we will tell you which fits.

Are Wye Valley lights dimmable?

Yes. All Wye Valley fittings take LED bulbs and dim normally with dimmable LEDs on a compatible dimmer, so a reading light can run bright for the crossword and drop soft for winding down. We can recommend bulb and dimmer pairings for each piece.

Can Wye Valley lights be matched to my other fittings?

Yes. Every piece is made to order in our Herefordshire workshop, so finishes can be matched to your other fittings and hardware, and the family sits happily alongside our other collections. Tell us what you are matching and we will confirm the finish.

Are Wye Valley lights made in the UK?

Yes. Every piece in the Wye Valley collection is designed and handmade in our workshop in Herefordshire, as we have done since 1982, in solid hand-spun brass and proper glass, and wired and tested to current standards before dispatch.

How much do Wye Valley lights cost?

Made-to-order Wye Valley pieces are priced comparably with premium retail brands, with long-reach swing arms a little more. What you are buying is solid brass, mechanisms built for decades of daily adjustment, handmaking in Herefordshire, and a finish matched to your scheme.
