This five-branch electrolier is a substantial early 20th-century piece, finished in a rich bronzed finish and strongly influenced by Flemish design. Heavy and architectural in presence, it is defined by bold proportions and confident ornamentation.
The scrolled arms extend outward with a pronounced, almost sculptural quality, each supporting a large candle pot that reinforces the electrolier’s solidity. These forms are thoughtfully echoed throughout the design: the stem features a smaller globed element that mirrors the shaping of the candle pots above, creating a pleasing visual rhythm and a sense of cohesion from top to bottom.
A substantial finial anchors the piece, formed as an egg-shaped terminal that adds weight and balance to the overall silhouette. Details such as the oversized, door-knocker-like elements and the generous scrollwork give the electrolier its distinctive character without tipping into excess.
The piece is attributed to Faraday & Son, a name associated with high-quality metalwork, supported by markings and construction details observed during restoration.
