This small Arts & Crafts lantern dates from the late 1890s and is a beautiful example of the movement.
The frame is brass with an oxidised copper plating, giving the lantern a dark, understated depth of colour. The frosted glass liner diffuses the light gently, producing a calm, even glow that suits hallways, porches, and intimate interior spaces particularly well.
A standout detail lies in the hand-formed scrollwork at the top of the lantern. Rather than being overly smoothed or softened, the scrolls retain a crispness where the metal has been rolled and left with sharp definition. A small but telling marker of hand craftsmanship that is often lost in later or machine-made pieces.
