Browse our collection of previously restored lighting to get an idea of what we can and have achieved with antique fittings. If you see something that you like here, contact our team, and we may have something similar in stock that is awaiting restoration.
Restoration is where Fritz Fryer began in 1982, and it remains the heart of the workshop: genuine period lights rescued, dismantled, cleaned, repaired, rewired in line with current standards and safety-tested, returning to service with its history intact. Every piece here has been through our benches and back to life.
The restored collection changes constantly, because every piece is a one-off: Arts and Crafts lanterns, English alabaster shell corner sconces, an antique lantern with hammered glass panels, a cut glass pineapple pendant, a Jefferson moonstone pendant, a Faraday & Son 6 branch electrolier. When a piece sells, it is gone, though we can often make or source something close.
If you are hunting something particular, or have a piece of your own that needs the same care, tell us. We restore customer pieces regularly, and we will assess, quote and advise honestly, including when a piece is best left alone.
Restored lighting is genuine period lighting professionally returned to working order: dismantled, cleaned, repaired by hand, rewired in line with current standards and safety-tested. Fritz Fryer has restored period lighting in our Herefordshire workshop since 1982, and every restored piece we sell has been through that process.
Ours are. Every restored piece we sell is stripped, rewired in line with current standards and safety-tested in our workshop before sale. That is the difference between buying from a specialist restorer and buying untested old stock, which should always be professionally rewired before use.
Each piece is dismantled, cleaned and assessed; damaged parts are repaired or remade by hand; then it is rewired in line with current standards and safety-tested. Crystal and glass are individually cleaned and missing pieces replaced from our stock of period material. The aim is a fitting that keeps its history but works like new.
Yes, every restored piece is a one-off, so the collection changes constantly and pieces sell first come, first served. If you miss something you loved, tell us: period pieces pass through the workshop constantly, and we can often source or make something close.
Yes, restoring customer pieces is work we have done since 1982, from family chandeliers to market finds that need rewiring. Send us photographs and we will assess the piece, quote honestly, and tell you whether restoration makes sense or the piece is best left alone.
Yes. All our restored fittings are rewired for modern bulbs and take LEDs, which run cooler and kinder on old glass, shades and wiring channels than the bulbs they were built for, let alone the flames before them. Dimmable warm-white LEDs return the soft glow these pieces were designed around.
Restored pieces are priced individually by period, rarity and condition, from attainable wall lights and lanterns to significant chandeliers. Honest pricing is part of our trade: tell us your budget and we will tell you straight what it buys, and flag anything we consider under or over the market.
Every restored piece leaves the workshop rewired and safety-tested, and we stand behind that work. These are one-offs, so we cannot replace like for like, but we service everything we sell and can maintain and repair our restored pieces for decades to come.
