A Fritz Fryer twist on the classic café lamp, whether over the counter or hung in the window, it oozes cafe culture chic.
The café lamp is a shape with a century of mornings in it: the simple glass pendant that hung over marble counters and Formica tables in every good café from the 1920s on, giving each table its own pool of warm light. It still does that job better than almost anything.
Our café lamps are designed and handmade in our Herefordshire workshop, as we have done since 1982, in proper glass and solid brass: the Café Lamp pendant, the Retro Café Lamp, and the retro café galvanised wall light to match. Every piece is made to order, so drops and finishes are set to your room, and we supply matching runs for commercial cafés and coffee shops, quoted per project.
Over a table or counter, hang café lamps 75 to 90 centimetres above the surface, one per table or spaced along the counter, low enough to make each spot its own little room. Tell us about your café, home nook or coffee shop and we will be straight about what will work and what it costs.
A café lamp is the classic glass pendant that has hung over café tables for a century: simple, warm, unfussy, giving each table its own pool of light. Fritz Fryer café lamps are handmade to order in proper glass and solid brass in our Herefordshire workshop, for homes and commercial cafés alike.
Over a table or counter, hang café lamps 75 to 90 centimetres above the surface: low enough to give each spot its own pool of warm light, high enough for sightlines across the room. Because our lamps are made to order, we set the drop to your table height.
Yes. Our café lamps are made from solid brass and proper glass, built for the knocks, cleaning and long daily hours of commercial use, and wired and tested to current standards in our workshop. We supply matching runs for cafés and coffee shops, quoted per project with schedules agreed at the outset.
Allow one lamp per table, or space them evenly along a counter at roughly one per 60 to 80 centimetres. The rhythm matters as much as the count: consistent spacing and height is what makes a row of café lamps look right. Send us your layout and we will advise.
Yes. All our café lamps take LED bulbs and dim normally with dimmable LEDs on a compatible dimmer, useful for shifting a café from bright mornings to softer afternoons, or a kitchen nook from breakfast to evening. We can recommend bulb and dimmer pairings.
Café lamps suit anywhere with an honest, unfussy character: kitchens, breakfast nooks, dining corners and garden rooms at home; cafés, coffee shops and bars commercially. The warmth of handmade glass and brass keeps the look personal rather than fitted-out. We will advise on what suits yours.
Yes. Every lamp is made to order, so finishes, sizes and drops can be matched to your interior, from a galvanised retro look to warmer brass and glass. For commercial spaces we match runs of lamps across the whole room, in the finish your brand needs.
Single made-to-order café lamps are priced comparably with premium retail brands; commercial runs are quoted per project with volume pricing. What you are buying is real glass and solid brass, handmaking in Herefordshire, and lamps built to survive years of daily service.
