Vintage Lighting

Within our fantastic collection of vintage lighting, we have a wide range of types and styles, so finding one that suits your space is easy!
If you cannot find the vintage light you’ve been searching for, speak to a member of the team. We would be happy to take a look through the fittings we have in stock that are yet to be restored.

Vintage lighting carries what new fittings spend years trying to fake: genuine age, honest wear, and the quality of an era when things were made to last. The right vintage piece gives a room instant depth; the wrong buying route gives you rewiring bills and safety worries.

We handle both halves of that. Fritz Fryer has restored and made period lighting in our Herefordshire workshop since 1982, so this collection runs from genuine restored originals, an Art Nouveau ceiling light, a two-branch gas rod with opalescent shades, a mid-20th century search lamp, to made-to-order pieces built the way the originals were, across vintage pendant lighting, vintage chandeliers, vintage wall lights and vintage table lamps.

Every original is stripped, restored, rewired in line with current standards and safety-tested before sale. If you are hunting a particular period or style, tell us; stock turns over constantly, and we will be straight about what we have and what can be made instead.

What is vintage lighting?

Vintage lighting is genuine period lighting, or new fittings faithfully made in period style, that brings the character of an earlier era into a modern home. Fritz Fryer’s vintage collection mixes restored originals with made-to-order period designs, all rewired in line with current standards and safety-tested.

Are your vintage lights genuine originals?

Many are genuine restored originals, and we always say clearly which is which. The rest are made to order in our Herefordshire workshop to period designs, in the same materials and by the same hands that restore the originals. Every piece, original or new, is wired and tested to modern standards.

Are vintage lights safe to use?

Ours are. Every original vintage fitting we sell is stripped, rewired in line with current standards and safety-tested in our workshop before sale. Untested vintage lights from markets and general dealers should always be professionally rewired before use; buying from a specialist restorer removes that risk.

How do I style vintage lighting in a modern home?

Vintage fittings give modern rooms warmth and a focal point: a vintage chandelier in a clean dining room, a restored pendant in a new kitchen. The contrast is the point. Keep the rest of the scheme simple and let the piece carry its era. We can advise on which periods sit naturally with your room.

Can vintage lights use LED bulbs?

Yes. All our vintage fittings, restored originals included, are rewired for modern bulbs and take LEDs, which run cooler and kinder on old shades and wiring channels. Dimmable warm-white and filament-style LEDs keep the vintage glow at a fraction of the running cost.

Can you find a specific vintage light for me?

Often, yes. We have sourced and restored period lighting for over forty years, and one-off originals pass through the workshop constantly. Tell us the period, style and size you are after and we will tell you honestly what we have, what is coming, or whether we can make something close.

How much does vintage lighting cost?

Genuine restored originals are priced individually by period, rarity and condition; made-to-order vintage-style fittings are priced comparably with premium retail brands. Either way you are buying proper materials, four decades of restoration experience, and a piece that has been made or remade to last.

Can you restore or rewire my own vintage light?

Yes. Restoration is where the business began in 1982. We restore and rewire customer pieces regularly, from family chandeliers to market finds. Send us photographs and we will assess the piece, quote honestly, and tell you whether restoration makes sense.
